Sustainability at Yasha Silk

Our Goal

has always been to design and sell items of the highest quality, comfort and style — but not at the expense of the environment.

Certified silk not only ensures the quality of the fabric, but also reflects a commitment to sustainable and environmentally responsible production practices.

Change doesn’t happen overnight, but we will do our best to start small and gradually move towards more significant changes.

We’re continuously pushing ourselves to review, research, and reevaluate different ways to leverage sustainability across our practices.

Here at Yasha Silk, we are dedicated to upholding our environmental and social responsibilities throughout our manufacturing and production process. As such, we are officially recognised by above authoritative institutions to be working in compliance with all criteria of their standards.

LAND LOVE

Our 100% organic mulberry silk blooms without pesticides or chemicals, championing soil health, regenerative farming, and the longevity of farmland. Organic silk farming supports healthier ecosystems and soil.

OCEAN RESPECT

The fashion industry is responsible for 20% of the earth’s water pollution from the use of chemicals and toxic dyes. It also contributes between 15 - 30% of the ocean’s microplastic contaminants. We stand against pollutants and plastics to safeguard oceans and marine life with plastic free packaging, synthetic free silk, and chemical free dyes and fabrics.

AIR CARE

Plastics, pesticides, and harmful synthetics sour the air. From our breathable silk to the atmosphere it graces, we are protecting downstream worker health and community air quality through the production of fabrics which do not release volatile compounds into the air.

" WASTE NOT

To us, being sustainable means taking responsible and ethical action to better care for the planet and its people. And we are committed to sharing the steps being taken towards lessening our environmental impact and what’s best for our employees, workers, you and the world around us.

Sustainability is deeply ingrained in us Yasha Silk brand values.

By incorporating innovative, eco-friendly fibers into our products, we not only elevate its quality and durability but also actively support the circular economy and minimize our environmental impact.

To ensure the sustainability of our raw silk, use only silk from suppliers that adhere to humane standards for treating silkworms. Avoid any abusive or exploitative practices. Support facilities that allow silkworms to live in natural conditions suited to their needs before producing cocoons. Ensure food sources given to silkworms are sustainable and non-toxic such as feeding using organic mulberry leaves. Employ degumming and silk extraction techniques that use non-toxic reagents like soap and water rather than harsh chemicals.

Why Silk is Sustainable?

"Silk does for the body what diamonds do for the hand" — Oscar De La Renta

Once upon a time, in a world where beauty and well-being intertwined, there was a fabric that held an enchanting secret. This fabric was silk, renowned for its luxurious appearance and extraordinary benefits. Its history begins in China, where farmers grew mulberry trees and harvested the leaves for silkworms to graze on. It has kept its status as a luxurious fabric that is heavily sought after, as it takes about 2500 silkworms to spin half a kilogram of raw silk.

So what makes mulberry silk unique? A single strand of fiber spun by a mulberry silkworm is mainly composed of silk fibroin and sericin binder. The silk fibroin structure provides the fiber stiffness and strength whilst the sericin binder acts as an adhesive which helps to hold the structure of the fiber together. Unlike other fabrics that tend to draw moisture from skin and hair (such as cotton), silk fibroin is a natural protein fiber with 18 essential amino acids, which makes it exceptional at maintaining the appropriate moisture balance in the skin.

Sustainability Focused

Silk is a renewable resource, can biodegrade.

Since silk is a natural fiber, it is both sustainable and has a minimal damaging impact on the environment. Silk production is one of the cleanest textile industries as mulberry trees do not require fertilizing or pesticides, which means that toxic chemicals are not introduced into the fabric of the silk. Therefore, silk uses less water, chemicals, and energy than many other fibers like polyester.

Hypoallergenic

The sericin in the silk fiber naturally repels dust mites, bacteria and fungus, making it a hypoallergenic alternative for many people with allergies or sensitivities.

Anti Aging

Not only does silk feel undeniably smooth and soft on the skin, but it also has great benefits to our skin. The natural cellular albumen in silk can help stimulate the metabolism of skin cells, whilst simultaneously delaying the aging process by preventing wrinkles and minimizing damage to the skin.

Temperature Regulator

Breathable and light-weight, silk fabric is known to be a natural temperature regulator, helping to naturally expel excess heat in warm weather, whilst helping the body to retain warmth in cold temperatures. Silk can naturally help to maintain a comfortable body temperature whichever season of the year it may be.

Package & Shipment

We also recognize the environmental impact of packaging, which is why we have taken deliberate steps to minimize waste and utilize eco-conscious materials in our packaging solutions. By embracing recycled, biodegradable, and reusable materials, we actively contribute to a greener future and further our commitment to the circular economy.

We are making an effort as a brand to step into more sustainable practices.

Yasha Silk uses as little packaging as possible while keeping your order safe since less packaging also equals less waste.

Another way of our top priorities is to use only recyclable packaging. Once you get your silk goodies just simply recycle the package and join the green movement!  We also encourage our clients to reduce plastic bag and paper bag usage by introducing a reusable shopping or packing bag.

Yasha Silk ships direct from the factory to you, reducing the carbon footprint of getting goods to the final destination.

A carbon-neutral method of shipping our silk goodies could neutralize your shipping emissions and removes carbon dioxide from the atmosphere. Carbon removal is the process of capturing carbon dioxide from the atmosphere and then storing it. Funds nature-based carbon removal solutions such as reforestation and soil carbon sequestration.
